"The pope must be responsible for the occurrence of the Vatican's hostility towards Turkey with the EU", according to wire secrets leaked by Wikileaks.
British newspaper Guardian reported that the latest wire WikiLeaks reveals, Pope Benedict XVI, who wanted to reject Turkey's desire to join the European Union. The paper states "In 2004 Cardinal Ratzinger, opposed the entry of Turkey as a Muslim country which will join the European Union. Although at the time that the Vatican was officially neutral stance towards Turkey's planned entry into the European Union."
Vatican Foreign Ministry official, Monsignor Pietro Parolin, responding to the contents of wire that comes from U.S. diplomats, citing comments from Ratzinger was the Vatican's official position dar, said the U.S. diplomat.
It shows that the Holy See has consistently open for access to Turkey in the negotiations since 2006. Guardian newspaper said the pope told U.S. diplomats that the Vatican is open for access to Turkey's membership into the European Union, but Satisfied stressed that Turkey must fulfill the Copenhagen criteria for EU to take its place in Europe.
