Suicide bomb attack in northwestern Pakistan area killed at least 40 people, local officials reported.
The attack happened at a government office complex in the district of Mohmand Agency when local officials are meeting with their allies from the anti-Taliban groups.
Dozens of people were also injured in the attack.
The area was directly adjacent to Afghanistan and is a strong pockets of Taliban and al-Qaeda. The Pakistani military has launched an offensive operation there but the attacks of the insurgency continues regularly.
A Taliban spokesman claimed the group they are responsible for the latest attack.
Attacks carried out by two suicide bombers posing with police uniforms and targeting local government office complex in Ghalanai, the main town in Monmand, about 175 km to the northwest of the capital, Islamabad.
More than 100 people reportedly were in the complex. An official, Mohammad Khalid Khan, told the Associated Press news agency that the tribal leaders and police officials among those who died.
At least two journalists were also killed.
An eyewitness, qalandar Khan told AP: "There was a deafening sound and the sound was caused clumps of dust and smoke. There are dozens of people on the ground like me, all bloody and crying. I saw pieces of bodies scattered in the complex."
About 25 people were injured seriously and taken to Peshawar for treatment in hospital.
One possible target of the attack, a famous politician in Mohmand Amjad Ali Khan, was not hurt.
An eyewitness told the BBC that a man who drove a motorcycle near a seating area not far from the place of meeting and detonated the bomb. A few seconds later a another bomber, also ride a motorcycle, detonated the bomb at the gates of the complex.
