The protests and sporadic gunfire broke out in the Haitian capital, Port-au-Prince, shortly after the election commission announced the two names that advanced to the second round presidential election.

Two names are the candidate of the ruling party, Jude Celestin, and former first lady, Mirlande Manigat.

Celestin and Manigat each get 31% and 22% of the vote.

Michel Martelly pop musicians get a 21% vote and failed to advance to the next round.

The supporters are disappointed Martelly, placing barriers and set fire to obstructions in the streets of the capital.

They also pelted the people on the road with stones.

'
Little difference'

The difference of votes between Manigat and Martelly "very slim" that is 6845. This makes the proponents of pop musicians Martelly request included in the presidential election second round.

Correspondents say the atmosphere was tense in the capital and the sound of gunfire rang out at a restaurant in the suburbs.

U.S. embassy in Haiti issued a concern over the election results by saying the announcement of the election commission does not match the data held by the monitors.

They say a lot of confusion over the implementation of first round.

UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon described the fraud in this election "is more severe than initial estimates."

The second round of presidential elections will be held January 16, and the winner will replace President Rene Preval.
