Two Mayor Were Shot Dead |
MEXICO CITY, Two small-town mayor in Mexico has been shot dead this month, which comes as part of drug violence in recent years, reported the government spokesman on Tuesday (11/01/2011).
Temoac mayor, a city of 12,000 residents in the state of Morelos in central Mexico, had been shot at close range.
Some prosecutors say the killings, like the previous killings, which can be performed by members of the drug mafia.
According to reports, before Mayor Abraham Ortiz Rosales was shot, he stopped the truck and allows the shooter to approach. This indicates that Rosales knew a man shooter.
On Friday, the government of Coahuila state, northern Mexico, found the body full of bullet holes. The corpse was Mayor Zaragoza, Saul Vara Rivera, who was reported missing several days earlier.
The 14 mayors of Mexico have been assassinated in 2010, mostly in the north of the country in turmoil. Region has been gripped by violence between drug groups and security forces in recent years.
More than 30,000 people have been killed in drug violence, including murders and mass abductions, since Mexican President Felipe Calderon launched a military offensive against a large gang in 2006.
