Hundreds of students gathered Tuesday morning in front of the Kabul University here and staged a protest against Quran burning in the United States recently."Some students decided yesterday to meet Tuesday morning and stage a demonstration to condemn the Quran burning in the U.S. and since the protest began this morning the number of people, most of them students, increased every minute," a student of Kabul University who declined to be named told Xinhua.
However, according to locals, a number of public order and anti- riot police forces have been deployed in a several squares leading to the country's biggest university in the west of Kabul to provide security for the event.
This is the fifth successive day that people staged demonstration across the war-torn country to register their protest against the burning of Muslim holy book Quran by a priest in the United States recently.
Likewise, demonstration in the northern Mazar-e-Sharif city on Friday which turned violence, the demonstrators ransacked UN compound and killed seven employees of the world body, while 23 others including a UN staff received injuries. Similar protest in the country's southern Kandahar province also left more than 15 dead and over 100 others injured on Saturday and Sunday.
