JAKARTA, Kompas.com-as many as 46 people are tunagrahita athletes ready to defend Indonesia to follow the Olympics the world Special Olympics world Summer Tunagrahita Games (SOWSG) to XIII to be held in Athens, Greece.
"SOWSG XIII is the annual sports competition of four peak achievements for special olympics athletes at the international level," said the Chairman of Special Olympics Indonesia (SOIna) Pudji Hastuti in Jakarta, Thursday.
The competition will take place on 20 June to 4 July 2011, which will be attended by the tunagrahita member of the special olympics athletes from 185 countries in the world including Indonesia.
He said, on the activities of the Olympic Games-time contingent SOIna totaled 66 people comprised one Chairman contingent, one Vice Chairman of the contingent, 46 athletes, coaches and five person 13 staff escort.
Athletes SOIna will follow the competition in seven sports including Athletics, table tennis, badminton, football, basketball, bocce ball and pool. "The selection of athletes through National Sports week competition are on 24-VI, June 30, 2010 as the selection to weed out athletes accomplished," he said. To date, SOIna already follow the Olympics tunagrahita since 1991 and has always managed to bring home a gold medal each time following the competition. "The last one on the special olympics world summer games to XII in Shanghai, China," he said.
He also added, SOIna already getting support from various parties from both the Government and the community including some private companies that provide great support.
Meanwhile, Indonesia also will send three delegates a consist of one person, one partner and one companion to follow Special World Summer Games Global Youth Activation Summit (GYAS). "This SUMMIT will be held in conjunction with the SOWSG 2011 in Athens, Greece began on 25 June-4 July 2011," he said.
One partner will follow GYAS is a HIGH SCHOOL student Daughter Nadira Kusaeni Labschool Rawamangun says he is in charge to speak and give sense to the youth in order to receive youth with tunagrahita. "I will give sense to the participants, especially the youth in order for the physically tunagrahita is acceptable in the community," he said.
SOIna is the only organization in Indonesia that got accreditation of Special Olympics International to meyelenggarakan training and sports competitions for persons with tunagrahita. Source: ANT Share Tweet
