Leaders of South Korean intelligence reportedly said North Korea will most likely be attacked again, a week after the artillery attack on the islands belonging to South Korea.
It is known to a few hours after officials said Seoul plans to resume military exercises with the United States.
November 23, North Korea fired Yeonpyeong island and killing at least four South Koreans.
The disputed border area has been several times to place the clashes in the past.
According to an official, Won Sei-hoon, Director of the South Korean National Intelligence Service told the hearing closed to the parliament that a recent attack occurred while there was a "criticism in the country" about Pyongyang's leadership succession and the worsening economic situation.
"Most likely the North would return to attack," said Won as reported South Korean Yonhap news agency.
