Just a site with some of the best President Obama pictures you have ever seen.

You know every once in a while I will need a great Obama picture to complete a post.

Well now I know where to find them. Right here.

Jeb Bush is just George W. Bush as seen from a different angle.

Think Progress has gathered together a number of facts about Jebbie that paint his as essentially the keeper of the George W. legacy, and an uber conservative to the core.

Here are a few:

He doesn’t recognize exceptions to abortion restrictions. When a severely retarded woman was raped and impregnated while in the care of the state, Bush asked a court to appoint a guardian for the fetus in an effort to block her abortion.

He opposes the expansion of Medicaid in Florida. When current Gov. Rick Scott (R) accepted federal money designated under the Affordable Care Act to expand Medicaid coverage to more low-income residents, Bush said he had doubts about the program because funding will be phased down after three years.

He has worked to suppress voting rights. Florida currently has one of the worst restrictions blocking many convicted felons from voting, even after they are released from prison. In 2000, Bush’s administration also misidentified 12,000 eligible voters, more than 40 percent of which were African American, as convicted voters and purged them from the voting rolls.

He has passed NRA-supported “Stand Your Ground” legislation. In 2005, Bush signed into law the bill which gave Floridians the right to use deadly force when they are in danger in public places, despite opposition from police chiefs in the state’s high crime Miami-Dade and Broward counties. The law famously came into play when George Zimmerman shot and killed unarmed black teenager Trayvon Martin.

In 1999, he abolished affirmative-action in higher education and state contracting through a unilateral executive order, triggering widespread protests across the state. His other major education reform, a statewide voucher program that directed taxpayer funds to private schools, was declared in violation of the Florida Constitution.

On national security, Jeb’s doctrine adheres closely to that of his brother George and he believes the U.S. should not back away from engaging allies and enemies around the world.

When it comes to climate change, Jeb Bush claims the “not a scientist” defense. He started using that now-ubiquitous line back in 2009, when he also declared that the climate “may not be warming.”

The "New Coke" version of Bush is going to try very hard to reinvent himself as a moderate, and  is going to make distance from both his brother and father when it seems politically necessary to do so.

However Jeb has a record, and it is not one that can be buried under 25,000 e-mails hand picked to put a shine on his reputation.

What I find truly humorous about the idea of Jeb becoming the 2016 GOP candidate is that conservatives have put a lot of stock in an already visible attempt to smear Hillary using Bill Clinton's past sexual peccadilloes against her.

However I am fairly certain that the voters are going to be far less concerned with the husband of one candidate's wandering eye than the brother of the other candidate's past attempts to single-handedly destroy this country.

Al Franken endorses Hillary Clinton in 2016, though at first he did not realize he was doing that.

(Franken's somewhat clumsy endorsement comes at the 7:25 mark, but really the whole interview is worth a listen.)

Courtesy of HuffPo:

Sen. Al Franken (D-Minn.) endorsed former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton for president in 2016, even if he didn't realize it at first.

"I think that Hillary would make a great president. I haven't announced that I am supporting her, but -- does this count? I guess? Maybe this counts," Franken said in an interview with MSNBC on Tuesday.

When asked if he felt he needed to see other potential candidates before endorsing Clinton, who has yet to declare she's running, Franken said he's ready for her to make a move.

"I think that I’m ready for Hillary," Franken said. "I think that we've not had someone this experienced, this tough, and she's very, very impressive."

I think that right now Franken is my favorite member of the Senate.

Mostly because I think we are on the same wavelength most of the time.

Though arguably he is a tad wittier.

Jeb Bush officially throws his hat into the presidential ring for 2016.

Not that this is a surprise, but now there is not longer any remaining doubt.

I actually think that this will do for the Republican field, essentially what having Hillary contemplating a run has done to the Democratic field.

I'm not saying that Scott Walker, Rick Perry, Rand Paul, and Chris Christie will not necessarily run, I am just saying that they will have little chance of beating Jeb. And he will for all intents and purposes draw the majority of media attention.

And let me just add at this point that the Democrats have no choice but to rally behind Hillary at this point. Because like it or not she has the very best chance of beating Bush in the general.

Just in case you harbored any doubts that Jeb Bush was running for President.

Courtesy of Politico:

Jeb Bush, the former Florida governor who is considering a run for president, said in an interview aired this weekend that he’s going to release about 250,000 emails from his time in office.

The move seems designed to get ahead of opposition researchers poring through his time in office — the Democratic research super PAC American Bridge already has started digging in on the candidates — but also to contrast Bush with people like New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie and former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, both of whom have been accused of creating a fog of secrecy in their government offices.

Unlike the records of Christie and Clinton, Bush’s document trove is fairly dated — he was in office from 1999 to 2007. But the idea, he told WPLG-TV in Miami, is to create “transparency.” Bush was known as an active emailer while in office, often responding to queries himself.

Old Jebby is also writing an ebook. (Can't get an actual publisher?)

So yeah, I think we can all assume that Jeb is definitely throwing his hat into the ring.

Hundreds of former Obama supporters are now urging Elizabeth Warren to once again deny Hillary Clinton the Democratic nomination.

Courtesy of CNN:

More than 300 former Obama campaign staffers signed an open letter Friday morning urging Massachusetts Sen. Elizabeth Warren to run for president in 2016.

The letter draws parallels between Obama's come-from-behind insurgent candidacy and Warren, who would enter the race an underdog against former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton if the latter runs, as expected.

Clinton is seen as the likely Democratic nominee if she jumps in the race, and leads every survey of the potential Democratic field by double digits. But the same was true during her first run for president, in 2008, when a then little-known senator from Illinois jumped in and upended what many expected to be a coronation for the former first lady.

"We believed in an unlikely candidate who no one thought had a chance," the letter opens.

"We know that the improbable is far from impossible," it goes on.

Once again I am conflicted.

Like many others I have some reservations concerning Hillary. Though I still see her as the Democratic party's best hope in 2016.

That being said the speech that Warren delivered on the Senate floor Friday spoke to me in a way that I have not felt since Obama's amazing speeches during his campaign and in the early days of his presidency.

If there were no Hillary, I have no doubt that I would be pushing with all my might to encourage Warren to run.

However I also believe that Warren will be a powerful voice in the Senate and that in those chambers she can electrify the Democrats like few others can these days.

Of course if Hillary taps Warren as her running mate then for me that would be the best of all possible options.

Anybody care to disagree?

The moment that Rick Perry realizes what he said.

NBC reporter asks Rick Perry if he is "smart enough to be President of the United States." Best question ever!

Courtesy of Real Clear Politics:

GOV. RICK PERRY: I think over the course of the last two years, people, you know, they realize that what they saw in 2011 is certainly not the person they're looking at in 2013, 2014, 2015.

KASIE HUNT, MSNBC: And are you smart enough to be president of the United States?"

PERRY: I think the standpoint of life's experiences. Running for the presidency is not an IQ test. It is a test of an individual's resolve. It's a test of an individual's philosophy. It is a test of an individual's life's experiences. And I think Americans are really ready for a leader that will give them a great hope about the future.

Yeah but she asked a question, and he never answered it.

You know a smarter person might have been able to do that.

And no, running for the presidency is NOT an IQ test. But as Sarah Palin learned to her great consternation IQ does in fact play a significant role in preparing a candidate to answer reporters' questions.

And she also demonstrated that wearing glasses is not enough to project an air of intelligence.

George W. Bush on his brother's chances against Hillary in 2016: "I think he'd beat her."

Courtesy of HuffPo:

George W. Bush says that he badly wants his brother Jeb to run for president -- and that if he were to face off against Hillary Clinton, he would "absolutely" beat her in a 2016 matchup.

"He knows I want him to run," the former president told Candy Crowley on CNN's "State of the Union" Sunday. "If I need to reiterate it, I will: Run, Jeb. I think he'd be a great president."

Asked if he considered Clinton to be "formidable," Bush said, "Very much so. No question. So is he, though.

"I think he'd beat her," he said.

I have a policy against ever agreeing with Bush on anything, but I think he is not to far off here.

While I don't necessarily think that Jeb could beat Hillary for the presidency, I will say that he has the best chance hands down of doing so.

If he runs, and it really looks like he will, 2016 is going to be an incredibly ugly campaign season.

Probably even worse than what we saw done against Obama this last time around.

The thing to remind everybody about is that Jeb helped to steal the election for "W" in 2000, and his brother then damn near destroyed the country. All of the problems that this country has faced in the last fourteen years, that the Republicans keep trying to blame on President Obama, are the the fault of George W. Bush. And by extension the brother who handed Florida to him on a plate.

That simply CANNOT be stressed enough.

Louie Gohmert for President? Is ANYBODY wingnutty enough to want that to happen? Oh yeah.

Courtesy of Right Wing Watch:

Anti-immigrant activist William Gheen, the head of Americans for Legal Immigration, stopped by VCY America’s “Crosstalk” program yesterday to discuss how a coalition of “big tycoons and kings and princes and emperors” is trying to take America down through immigration, thus taking away power from Americans who celebrate Thanksgiving, Christmas and the Fourth of July, and his cunning plan to stop this from happening by having Rep. Louie Gohmert or Rep. Steve King ascend to the presidency.

“The megawealth of the planet has never really been happy about the United States of America and this entire concept that we the people are self-governed and in charge and that big tycoons and kings and princes and emperors, like Obama’s acting like, are not in charge,” Gheen said. “And they’ve found a way to take over our corporations, to take over our media, to take over our country by facilitating a very costly and deadly illegal alien invasion.”

He warned that Americans are in “mortal danger” from immigration and from the “growing anti-Christ spirit and anti-Christ movement in this country that is becoming stronger and more emboldened as the traditional conservative center-right Americans are displaced in our jobs and our politics and elections.”

Aww, the brown people are giving this William Gheen guy a case of the sads.

So does he have some plan for turning this whol thing around?

Oh hell yeah!

But luckily, Gheen has a solution. When a caller asked about how to “remove Obama from office,” Gheen proposed a simple plan. First, he said, “we’re working on Boehner and McConnell right now because those dominos have to fall and we can move to the next phase.”

The next phase, he said, would be for Congress to impeach and remove both President Obama and Vice President Biden.

Then the final piece of the puzzle comes into place: get Rep. Louie Gohmert or Rep. Steve King elected Speaker of the House, so he can ascend to the presidency until the next election is held.

Okay well first off that is the most convoluted plot I have heard in some time, and I have been binge watching the BBC series "Sherlock" for the last several days.

And secondly, though I do not usually consider myself the type to take up arms against my government, if somehow Louie "freaking" Gohmert were to be put in charge of the country you can bet I will be leading the northern resistance out of Alaska.

And here I thought the worst thing that could happen is for Sarah Palin to be elected President.

Conservative groups band together to block nomination of Jeb Bush.

Courtesy of the Washington Examiner:

Conservative leaders who had a hand in key Republican victories including Ronald Reagan’s presidency, the Contract with America and the birth of the Tea Party, are ganging up to oppose a Jeb Bush presidential bid, declaring him easier to beat than Bob Dole or John McCain.

“I don’t know of any conservatives who are supporting him,” said Richard Viguerie, chairman of ConservativeHQ.com.

“Jeb is a very good moderate Democrat,” added top-rated talk radio host Mark Levin. “He's very boring. He doesn't elicit excitement and energy outside a very small circle of wealthy corporatists and GOP Beltway operatives. Time to move on.”

Wow! Easier to beat than Bob Dole! That is some nasty backstabbing right there my friends.

Okay now do you want to know what measuring tool they are using to judge Jeb's suitability to be President?

The Reagan-ometer that's what:

“The objection so many Reaganites have to another Bush is because he is another Bush,” said Reagan biographer Craig Shirley. “He, too, has an alarming belief in centralized authority. From the standpoint of history, the Bush family got their start in 1980 opposing Reagan and Reaganism, as they continue to do today.”

Of course as most of us realize even Ronald Reagan could not measure up to the Conservatives deified version of his memory.

And who do these conservative leaders want instead of the easily defeated Jeb Bush? Well I thought you'd never ask:

“We just don’t trust him,” said Viguerie, who favors Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker, Indiana Gov. Mike Pence and Sens. Rand Paul and Ted Cruz.

Oh yeah, thinking that Ted Cruz, Scott Walker, or Rand Paul are more electable than Jeb Bush.

Just things  batshit crazy conservatives do.

John McCain "strongly encouraging" Lindsey Graham to run for President. Seriously?

Courtesy of Mediaite:

It’s no secret that Senators John McCain and Lindsey Graham are close compadres. They see eye-to-eye on so much and speak in tandem on so many big issues that it’s actually noteworthy when they publicly disagree on something. So, of course, with Graham actually considering a run for president in 2016, McCain may very well be one of his biggest advocates and tells ABC News he is pushing Graham into running.

“I am strongly encouraging him to take a look at it,” McCain said. “I know of no one who is better versed and more important on national security policy and defense than Lindsey Graham, and I don’t think these challenges to our security are going away.”

Well good to see that McCain is still just as sharp as always when it comes to picking presidential and vice presidential candidates.

Could you just imagine the histrionic Lindsey Graham as the freaking Commander-in-Chief?

"Oh I do declare, they's attacking us Beauregard. Send out the Army, the Navy, the Marines, oh hell send out everybody!"

Well I know at least one former McCain associate that will be none to happy to know that he is endorsing Graham instead of her.

New poll shows that liberals want Elizabeth Warren for their 2016 presidential candidate over Hillary Clinton by double digits. Which really should come as no surprise to anyone.

Courtesy of CNN:

Massachusetts Sen. Elizabeth Warren -- not Hillary Clinton -- is the top progressive choice for president in 2016, according to a new poll.

In fact, Clinton doesn't even make second place. Forty two percent of respondents favor Warren, and Vermont Independent Senator Bernie Sanders also edges out Clinton with 24% compared to her 23%, according to results from the 2016 Presidential Pulse Poll commissioned by progressive grassroots organization Democracy for America.

Okay now before everybody gets their hemp panties in a twist, please remember that this poll was conducted by Democracy for America, which is to liberal politics what the Tea Party Express is to conservative politics.

I am in total agreement that Elizabeth Warren would make an amazing candidate in 2016, but the facts are that she does not want the job. (At least not yet.)

And though I adore Bernie Sanders, let's face it on TV he often looks like somebody woke your grandfather up from his nap and stuck a microphone in his face.

He is great on the politics, but the packaging might be a problem. (Yes I know it is not supposed to be a beauty contest, but there is a reason the Republicans chose Mitt Romney and it is not due to his mastery of the facts.)

I think, to be honest, that there is no real doubt that Hillary is going to be the candidate whether she is the liberal's first choice or not.  And let's face it, they will turn out to vote for her, no problem.

Now in my favorite political fantasy she invites Warren to join her on the ticket. But at this point I don't know if that is feasible or not.

If it were to happen, I would say that the turn out may far exceed the turnout for Barack Obama in the 2008 election, and it would quite literally cause many Republicans to soil themselves in response.

The intro to Ben Carson's 40 minute "Breath of Fresh Air" documentary will make you wonder if he is getting enough "fresh air" to his brain.

What in the hell did I just watch?

C'mon this is a parody of the actual documentary, right? Right?

Apparently not according to Mediaite:

The ad starts out exactly as you might expect: Lots of medical imagery, including a flat-lining heart monitor (meant to signify America’s demise?); dramatic music set to video of Dr. Carson in scrubs at his hospital; footage of Fox News and CNN anchors discussing his possible 2016 run; and the neurosurgeon looking directly into the camera while reciting the Pledge of Allegiance.

The pledge gives way to an unending two-minute female narration, full of disjointed sentences and awkward emphasis on arbitrary words.

"Disjointed sentences and awkward emphasis on arbitrary words?" Well hell perhaps Carson really is born to run for political office as a Republican.

I have not felt so lost watching a video since the last time I transcribed a Sarah Palin interview.

And the time before that was, well that was another Sarah Palin interview as well.

Which I guess helps us to realize whose demographic Carson is shooting for.

I wonder if the Republicans realize that it takes more than pigment to become the conservative answer to Barack Obama?

It looks like the first potential GOP contender for the 2016 presidency is breaking from the pack.

Courtesy of Politico:

Conservative darling Dr. Ben Carson is set to air a documentary introducing himself to America, spurring further speculation he’ll run for president in 2016.

The 40-minute-long paid spot will run in 22 states this weekend and is entitled “A Breath of Fresh Air: A New Prescription for America,” ABC News reported on Thursday.

Carson, a Fox News regular and longtime pediatric neurosurgeon who gained fame in the political sphere for stridently criticizing Obamacare, has not announced a bid for the White House. But he hasn’t ruled it out either, and there’s been a grass-roots movement to recruit him for 2016.

The day after that article appeared Politico then made this announcement:

Fox News has cut ties with contributor Dr. Ben Carson after learning that the neurosurgeon-turned-conservative commentator plans to air a 40-minute ad promoting his bid for the Republican presidential nomination.

Now would Carson have endangered his cushy gig as a Fox News talking head if he were NOT serious about launching a losing a bid for President in 2016? I don't think so.

And do you know what, he might just have a pretty good run during the nomination process.

After all when Hillary was getting lots of favorable press for running, the GOP said "Hey we need a chick," and lo and behold they plucked Palin out of the tundra, hosed her off, and put her out in front of millions of Americans as the conservative Hillary Clinton. (And didn't THAT work great?)

So now that they have spent the last six years attacking the first black President, and claiming he is unfit for the job, it makes sense for them to try and fend off charges of racism by saying "Hey, you know what we need, one of those dark skinned fellows." And lo and behold now they have one.

However I think we all know that the political party for old white racists is not about to actually allow a black man to lead the ticket. Oh hell no.

So they will let him run, throw tons of accolades his way, and then cut his legs out from under him right when it looks like he has been in the race long enough to make them seem inclusive, and not at all plantation owners letting the negro sit in the master's chair for a few minutes to make him feel all important and stuff.

And so it begins.

This arrived in my mailbox yesterday.

Not wasting any time are they?

And as one, all eyes turn.

First there's this as reported by Politico:

As Democrats wake up this morning reeling from an electoral spanking, the 2016 presidential race will unofficially begin — with the main focus on the woman who is all but certain to seek her party’s nomination a second time.

 Then this courtesy of CNN:

Hillary Clinton has spent the final moments of the midterm campaign season publicly deflecting the flurry of questions about her likely run for president.

But behind the scenes, her campaign machine is quietly whirring to life.

Clinton insiders have begun to approach Washington-based Democratic operatives who may play a role in a potential campaign and are soliciting their recommendations on other possible staffers, according to Democrats familiar with the conversations.

A number Clinton associates are compiling staffing lists, according to multiple Democratic sources. Michael Whouley and Minyon Moore of the Democratic communications and consulting firm Dewey Square Group are one conduit to Clinton's inner circle and among the primary compilers of the campaign universe that will surround Clinton, should she run.

I said earlier, and I stand by it, that much of what the new Republican Senate, and their friends in Congress and the Right Wing media, will be focused on is undermining Clinton in the hopes of damaging her credibility before 2016.

Sure they will also try to destroy Obama's legacy as well, but the main focus will have to be the juggernaut facing off against them in the next election.

Towards that end I expect to hear a whole lot about Benghazi, and Russia, and the current conflicts in the Middle East. Because you know clearly those are all her fault.

We will also hear way more than we want to about Bill and his indiscretions, along with a whole slew of misogynistic comments and attacks from the likes of Rush Limbaugh and the overgrown frat boys at Fox News. In short it might just make the rampant racism that bubbled to the surface after the election of President Obama pale by comparison.

Personally I think she should announce today, just to take the wind out of the Republican sails, and to get the country focused on the election where the Republicans will finally have their asses handed to them on a platter.

Just a thought.

Even if the Republicans win big, Obamacare is safe.

Courtesy of Politico:

By now, most of us are expecting widespread GOP victories in the midterm elections that will give Republicans complete control of Capitol Hill come January. But Tuesday will also deliver an inconvenient truth: The single item at the top of the Republican legislative agenda, the signature talking point of the last four years, is likely to go nowhere.

Even Mitch McConnell admits it. After six years of railing against Obamacare, here’s the sum total of what Republicans are likely to do if they win control of the Senate: Little, if anything.

Obamacare has been Republicans’ favorite whipping boy even before it became law in 2010. They’ve used it time and again on the campaign trail to fire up voters against the White House and Democrats in Congress. But now that they seem poised to begin doing something about it, they will have to face a new reality: The Affordable Care Act is here to stay and Republicans will be political losers if they mess with it too much.

This week McConnell admitted that repealing Obamacare is impossible, in the face of a likely Democratic filibuster and a certain presidential veto. But McConnell didn’t tell the whole story. That was left to Ohio’s Republican Governor John Kasich, when he pointed out last week that the “political and ideological opposition” to the ACA won’t hold water “against real flesh and blood and real improvements in people’s lives.”

Kasich insists that he was just talking about Medicaid expansion, but the same political logic applies to the ACA as a whole. With millions of people newly covered, and with major industries including insurance and hospitals benefitting, the ACA will not be repealed, dismantled, defunded or defanged. Any changes will be around the margins and even these will be complicated to pull off.

Feel Better?

Interestingly enough Jim Wright, a fellow Alaskan blogger, said much the same thing yesterday.

So what WILL the Republicans do if they manage to win control of both the Senate and the House?

Well if past is prologue nothing of any real benefit to their constituents that's for damn sure.

And I also agree that they will be unable to do anything about repealing Obamacare, and as for impeaching the President, well I am sure that there are many of them who remember how well that worked out for their party with Bill Clinton.

I actually think that after making halfhearted attempts to derail Obamacare, and undo some of Obama's policies, that the Republicans will then turn to what is really important to the future of their party.

Benghazi.

But not to hurt President Obama, he is yesterday's news. No they want to use it to damage somebody much more threatening to them.

Hillary Clinton.

In fact I would be willing to bet that a number of agenda items will be barely concealed attempts to damage her reputation, to question her ability to lead the country, and to dredge up old news about Bill Clinton's sexual peccadilloes.

Yes if the Republicans get control of both houses it will be all about bashing Hillary Clinton 24/7. And I will guarantee you that before they are finished they will have managed to cut her favorability ratings in half. If not having derailed her candidacy altogether.

Keep that in mind as you head out to the polls today.

Chris Christie demonstrating once again why he will NEVER be the Republican presidential candidate.

Wow, what a dick!

Here is how Raw Story covered this exchange:

A New Jersey activist and Hurricane Sandy survivor filmed during a confrontation with Gov. Chris Christie (R) on Wednesday accused his administration of short-changing a $1.1 billion federal relief package meant to help residents.

“Only 20 percent of those dollars have gotten to the people,” James Keady told MSNBC host Chris Hayes. “Of the $1.1 billion, $219 million has gone out. That means that the governor and his staff in Trenton are sitting on $800 million.”

According to Keady’s advocacy group, Finish The Job, Christie’s administration has mismanaged the Rehabilitation, Reconstruction, Elevation and Mitigation (RREM) while boasting about its success in the public eye.

“Photo ops, Christie, President Obama, everybody walking on the beach, kumbaya, giving the hugs,” he said.

Keady faced off with Christie as the governor gave a speech in Belmar commemorating two years since the hurricane devastated New Jersey. Video of the encounter shows Keady standing in front of Christie bearing a sign saying, “Get Sandy families back in their homes,” prompting Christie to berate him from the stage.

“I’m glad you had your day to show off, but we’re the ones who are here to actually do the work,” Christie told him. “So turn around and get your 15 minutes of fame and then maybe take your jacket off and roll up your sleeves and do something for the people of this state.”

By the way it seems that in a contest as to who has rolled up their sleeves and done something for the people of this state, that this James Keady guy is miles ahead of Chris Christie:

“When the hurricane happened, I actually took a month off from work, dropped everything and volunteered to help clean out peoples’ homes,” James Keady told MSNBC host Chris Hayes. “It actually reached the point within a day or two [that] the borough gave me a borough dump truck running all the clean-up crews all over town.”

You know there has always been this criticism of President Obama that he is a little TOO cool, and does not express his emotion enough for people to relate to him.

But I do not think for a second that that means they would rather replace him with a wannabe "Sopranos" stand in wielding a temper that would make Joe Pesci say "Hey calm the fuck down."

Christie is angry man with virtually no filter. That might play in New Jersey but would do him no favors in the national arena.

After all what's he gonna do, leave a panda head in China Premier Li Keqiang's bed?
