Congressman Young "apologizes" to the Alaska Federation of Natives, and then promptly ruins it by assaulting a native woman who confronted him afterward.

So after making some incredibly insensitive remarks during an appearance at Wasilla High, where he essentially told an audience of students still mourning the loss of their friend to suicide that "suicide shows a lack of support from friends and family," Don Young tried to make nice with the the Alaska natives, whose communities have been ripped apart by the epidemic of suicide, by kind of sort of apologizing.

However one native Alaskan in attendance did not hear that apology, so she decided to talk to her Congressman in person.

Here is how that went.

Gloria Poullard approached Young to ask him about a profane speech he gave last week at Wasilla High School, in which the congressman offended students by arguing that suicide was caused by a lack of support from friends and family. 

"You know, it really put a hamper on my faith in you because my elders voted for you, and this is my state, I'm an Alaska native," Poullard said to Young, according to video of the exchange from local TV station KTUU. "How do you feel within yourself, what possessed you to even make a comment like that? My nephew just committed suicide." 

Young shushed her and shook her hand, to which Poullard responded "You don't tell me to shush." 

"Hey, I lost a nephew," he said. "I know what it feels like and I gotta ask myself, did I support him enough? Did I? I don't know." 

"Don't you get angry with me, don't even squeeze my hand," Poullard said. Young then released her hand and walked away.

Earlier I reminded you that Lisa Murkowski's successful write in campaign would probably have failed if not for the support of the AFN.

And a whole lot of Young's support comes from his ties to the Alaska native community.

I am not native but I am guessing that getting in their face and squeezing their hand until it hurts is not going to help him to gain back their confidence.  

Hey if you want somebody to talk about "bull sex" and blame suicide on the victim's friends and family. Then Alaska's Rep. Don Young is your man.

The Alaska Dispatch News reported that students and staff at Wasilla High School said U.S. Rep. Don Young (R-AK) "acted in a disrespectful and sometimes offensive manner to some students, used profanity and started talking about bull sex when confronted with a question about same-sex marriage" during his 60-minute appearance. 

When one student asked Young why he thought same-sex marriage was so bad, the congressman responded: “You can’t have marriage with two men. What do you get with two bulls?” according to Wasilla Principal Amy Spargo.  (Apparently Young answered "bullshit" to that last question.)

Witnesses told the Dispatch News that Young's comments on suicide also stunned the assembly, as students and staff were mourning the loss of a Wasilla student who took his own life last week. Young mentioned alcohol and depression and said that suicide shows a lack of support from friends and family, according to the witnesses. 

"When I heard 'a lack of support from family' and I heard 'a lack of support from friends,' I felt the oxygen go out of the room, but I gasped as well," Spargo told the newspaper. "It just isn't true in these situations. It's just such a hurtful thing to say."

Apparently Young's office realized that the fossil had once again made a giant fool of himself so they issued a half assed apology:

 “Congressman Young was very serious and forthright when discussing the issue of suicide, in part because of the high number of tragedies that affect Alaskan youth. He discussed what he believes are leading causes of youth suicide in our state and shared some suggestions for helping family members and friends who are dealing with suicidal thoughts,” spokesman Matt Shuckerow wrote in an email. “In no way did Congressman Young mean to upset anyone with his well-intentioned message. In light of the tragic events affecting the Wasilla High School community, he should have taken a much more sensitive approach.”

According to the Dispatch Young also said that one of the students who challenged him in the discussion needed "to learn some respect."

I imagine that when that young man is in the presence of somebody deserving respect he will do just that.

MSNBC's Chris Hayes "Did Alaska Congressman Don Young kill a guy?"

Let me first say that I think I may have squealed out loud when I heard Chris Hayes say those words in the headline. However I think I deserve a pass on that as I have been waiting all week for this story to make it to cable news.

As you watch the segment you can see that neither Hayes, nor Young's opponent Forrest Dunbar, take any of this very seriously, but MSNBC also includes a kind of "best of Don Young" portion as well which as we Alaskans know all too well is anything but good for the Congressman.

Now I am hoping that this inspires other news outlets to really go after Young on this issue.

Because don't forget folks we really only have three choices here.

1. Either Don Young is a senile old coot who just says crazy shit.
2. Don Young is a habitual liar who says crazy shit.
3. Or Don Young is a murderer, who does crazy shit. 

And NONE of those are good for Don Young.

However getting him to admit any one of them IS good for Alaska. 

Speaking of stories finally getting national attention, somebody finally noticed that Don Young claimed to have killed a man.

It is suddenly a bit of an open question whether the last person to touch Rep. Don Young (R-AK) somehow ended up dead. 

Earlier this month, according to the Alaska Dispatch News, Young's Democratic challenger Forrest Dunbar said that he had put his hand on Young's arm backstage while they were talking before a debate. 

“He freaked out. There is no other way to describe it," Dunbar told ADN. “He kind of snarled at me and said, ‘Don’t you ever touch me. Don’t ever touch me. The last guy who touched me ended up on the ground dead.'" 

A radio station employee who was backstage confirmed to ADN that she heard Young, 81, saying "something about the last guy who touched me, blah, blah" to Dunbar, who is 30. 

So what's up with that?

Well Roll Call wondered the same thing, so they asked him:  

He’s flouted ethics rules. Twisted a staffer’s arm. Even allegedly threatened a life, telling his Democratic challenger this fall that the last person to touch him “ended up on the ground dead” — a fact he told CQ Roll Call there was “some truth” to.

Okay enough is enough. If this old son-of-a-bitch is going to openly admit to committing murder and law enforcement both in Alaska and Washington D.C. do nothing about it what does that say about justice in this country?

How hard is it for the state troopers, the D.C. police, or the FBI to walk up to this old fossil and simply ask him #Whodidyoukill?
